High-speed data conversion and signal processing solutions are essential for the next generation of software-defined radios (SDR). Software-defined radios have numerous advantages over traditional transceiver architectures. They enable multi-protocol support on a given platform and updates for new waveforms and standards that can be enabled simply using software. Omni Design’s Wideband Signal Processing solutions are uniquely suited for these applications owing to their high sampling rate and high linearity as well as the state-of-the-art in energy consumption. Satellite Communications

Omni Design’s data acquisition and signal-processing solutions have been deployed in space to facilitate wideband wireless communications. They tackle the challenge of efficiently digitizing analog RF signals, essential for high-throughput data links in SatCom systems.  

Solutions include multi-channel 2-8Gsps low-power data acquisition and signal-processing solutions, combined with specialized cores from our OmniTRUST™ product line to monitor and mitigate radiation effects, ensuring high reliability for satellite internet communication. With exceptional spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), these solutions maintain signal fidelity, supporting next-generation low-power, high-speed, and low-latency satellite communications.  

Wi-Fi 6/6E/7

320 MHz channels

Wi-Fi 7 doubles the channel bandwidth compared to Wi-Fi 6, reaching 320 MHz in the 6 GHz band. This translates to more data flowing through the airwaves, demanding faster data converters to keep up.

4096-QAM Modulation

Wi-Fi 7 crams more data into each symbol using 4096-QAM modulation, a significant leap from the 1024-QAM of Wi-Fi 6. Data converters need to accurately distinguish these densely packed symbols to avoid errors.

Multi-Link Operation (MLO)

Wi-Fi 7 can intelligently juggle data across multiple bands and channels simultaneously. Data converters play a critical role in seamlessly stitching these signals together for a smooth, high-speed experience.

Wireless Backhaul & Point-to-point

Wireless backhaul and point-to-point communications utilizing multi-channel multi-gigahertz low-power Swift data acquisition solutions to deliver 10Gbps or more in modems. Omni Design delivers Swift data converters to meet the demands of fronthaul and backhaul networks, supporting both outdoor millimeter wave units and ethernet transport implementations for 5G and 6G cellular networks.

SWIFT™ Data Converters for Communication Applications:

  • High-Speed Data Transmission and Reception: SWIFT data converters, with sampling rates reaching tens of GS/s, directly enable the high data rates required for modern communication standards (e.g., 5G NR, Wi-Fi 6/6E/7). This high sampling rate supports wider signal bandwidths, leading to increased data throughput.  


  • Wideband Signal Processing: The broad bandwidth supported by these converters allows for the processing of complex modulation schemes (e.g., OFDM, QAM with high orders) used in advanced communication systems to maximize spectral efficiency.  


  • Direct RF Sampling Architectures: High-performance SWIFT Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) with sufficient sampling rates (multi-GSPS) facilitate direct RF sampling. This simplifies receiver architectures by eliminating the need for multiple down-conversion stages, reducing component count, power consumption, and overall system complexity.  


  • High Linearity and Low Noise Figure: Excellent Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) and low Noise Figure (NF) are crucial for communication receivers to accurately detect weak signals in the presence of interference. SWIFT™ converters are designed to achieve high linearity and low noise, improving receiver sensitivity and overall link budget.  


  • IQ Data Conversion for Complex Modulation: The availability of In-phase/Quadrature (IQ) ADCs and Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) within the SWIFT family directly supports the efficient generation and digitization of complex modulated signals used in modern digital communication systems. This simplifies baseband processing.


  • Integrated Analog Front-End (AFE) Functionality: The potential integration of SWIFT converters with other AFE components like Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), mixers, and filters on the same die reduces board-level complexity, minimizes signal path losses, and improves overall system performance in communication transceivers.


  • Low Power Consumption for Mobile and Infrastructure: The ultra-low power design of the SWIFT family is critical for battery-operated mobile communication devices and for minimizing energy consumption in dense infrastructure deployments like cellular base stations and portable radios.

Omni Design has data converter products to support both direct conversion and zero-IF baseband conversion solutions with high performance Swift data converter IQ pairs for both transmit and receive paths.
